Description:
SODIUM BICARBONATE injection is a sterile, non-pyrogenic solution used as an electrolyte replenisher and systemic alkalinizing agent. It works by increasing plasma bicarbonate levels, helping neutralize excess acid in the blood and restoring the body’s normal acid-base balance. This medication is commonly used in hospital and emergency settings where rapid correction of metabolic acidosis is required.

Important Uses:
• Treatment of metabolic acidosis associated with severe kidney disease, diabetes, shock, dehydration, cardiac arrest, or severe infections.
• Management of certain drug overdoses or poisonings, particularly with tricyclic antidepressants, salicylates, and barbiturates, where urine alkalinization may help enhance drug elimination.
• Adjunct treatment during cardiac resuscitation (CPR) when metabolic acidosis is present.
• Correction of electrolyte imbalance in patients experiencing severe acidosis due to renal failure or circulatory collapse.
• Urinary alkalinization to help reduce the toxicity of certain medications and chemicals.
