Description:

Meropenem is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic belonging to the beta-lactam class.
It is designed to combat severe bacterial infections caused by both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including many that are resistant to other antibiotics.

Mechanism of Action:
Meropenem inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), resulting in bacterial cell death.

Indications:

• Severe bacterial infections such as:

  • Intra-abdominal infections

  • Meningitis

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Pneumonia (including hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated)

  • Urinary tract infections

  • Septicemia
