Irbesartan is an ARB that works by blocking the effects of angiotensin II, a hormone that causes blood vessels to constrict. By blocking this hormone, irbesartan relaxes blood vessels, lowers blood pressure, and improves blood flow to organs, especially the kidneys.
It is commonly used as first-line or add-on therapy for hypertension and diabetic kidney disease.
