Ethambutol Hydrochloride HAMBUTOL 400mg Tablet 100’s
Description:
Ethambutol is a bacteriostatic antibiotic — meaning it stops the growth of bacteria rather than killing them directly. It’s part of a group of medicines used to treat infections caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterium responsible for tuberculosis (TB).
Ethambutol tablets are given by mouth and are intended for use as part of a multi-drug TB regimen, not by themselves alone. This helps prevent bacterial resistance and increases treatment effectiveness.
Uses:
Ethambutol 400 mg is mainly used for:
-
Treatment of active tuberculosis (TB) — both pulmonary (lungs) and extrapulmonary (other body sites) TB when combined with other first-line TB medicines such as isoniazid, rifampicin, and pyrazinamide.
-
Prevention of resistance to other TB drugs when used as part of a combination therapy.
-
Sometimes used (based on doctor decision) for infections caused by atypical mycobacteria in special cases.
